Wild olive trees were being used and inter-bred to produce olive oil for at least the past 6,000 years. These trees were found through-out the Mediterranean and there is a fascinating archeological record. Olive oil, uniquely, comes from the fruit, not the seed. As growers selected the trees with the biggest fruit, the seeds got smaller and those seeds, left in the garbage oils of history tell the story of the development of modern olive oil varieties. Olive oil-based body balms were found in 5000 year old Egyptian tombs.

Characteristics

Extra Virgin Olive oil, by definition, comes from the first pressing of the fruit. As subsequent pressings are done, the quality of the oil degrades and the last pressing is done with solvent extraction. The oil supplied by Oh, Oh is from the first pressing only and has a rich aroma of olives. We’ve been selling the same producers’ olive oil since 2001.
