USDA-NOP – The US. Dept. of Agriculture – because all organic products start on farms. NOP = the National Organic Program. This links to the rules.
FDA-Cosmetics – Food and Drug Administration – this agency has regulatory authority over cosmetics, food and drugs. This is a general link to a landing page on cosmetics.
NSF-305 – This is a US “Contains Organic” Standard published by NSF (a non- profit that charges for the use of their standard – go figure). This link goes to the Oregon Tilth description of the program (FAQs).
COSMOS – an Organic and Natural Cosmetic Standard based in the EU.
IFRA – a link to IFRA and the IFRA Standards if you are a hard core wonk…

SCC (California) – Society of Cosmetic Chemists has a chapter near you. They have great informational meetings and offer supplier contacts all over the country.
AOCS – American Oil Chemists Society is the best for info on vegetable oils.
California Safe Cosmetics Act – this link is to a database that will show you all of the cosmetics reported in Calif. that contain Prop 65 listed ingredients.
UEBT – The Union for Ethical Biodiverse Trade – our favorite sustainability certification.
Cosing – this is the link the EU regulatory list of INCI names with associated CAS numbers. An easy way to verify an INCI name.
FDA-MOCRA – MOCRA Rules –This is a link to information about MOCRA and registration.
