Originally found in the North of India and cultivated in the Mediterranean basin, the bitter orange tree is a prickly bush with bright green leaves and strongly scented white flowers. Its fruit—bitter orange—is tart. This was the first orange tree introduced to Europe. Its name comes from the French words for “little seeds”. Organic Petitgrain Essential Oil gives that "green" uplifting aroma to fragrance blends and formulas.

Characteristics

Petitgrain is classified as a calming oil. Its aroma is a fresh, floral, citrusy scent with woody herbaceous undertones. Considered a top note, tt is a classic ingredient in traditional perfumery. It has a gentle sedative action and is useful for the skin and hair. It has been referred to as a “poor man’s Neroli” because it has similar benefits and uses yet is less expensive than Neroli.
