Oh, Oh Organic sources our Squalene from a family owned and operated olive farm cultivated and produced since 1929. This family promotes sustainability in their region. We are proud to offer a plant-based ingredient to replace one that historically has been sourced from sharks. There has been a recent increase of Squalene derived from sugar and genetically modified microorganisms so, we wanted to find a source that brings it back to the olive tree.

Characteristics

This ingredient is high in one of the more stable fatty acids, oleic acid (Omega 9). Squalene mimics the natural sebum which leaves the user feeling a boost in hydration and an increase in moisture levels. Squalene is in its natural form from olive oil. While squalane (note the a vs. e) is hydrogenated and makes the ingredient harder to apply to the skin and hair.

Benefits

This ingredient adds viscosity and a luxurious feel to a formula. It has been shown to reduce redness and swelling. Squalene is also known to be a natural emollient that retains moisture and does not clog pores. It can also be applied to hair to increase shine and prevent breakage.
